What is FTP File in WordPress?

FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is an internet protocol for transferring data from one computer to another via the internet. You’ll need something called an FTP client to do this. The FTP client is personal computer software that allows you to transfer files to and from your web server. Most WordPress web hosting service providers provide FTP access, allowing customers to upload and download files directly from their control panel to their web hosting server. Before installing WordPress, users may need to use an FTP client to upload WordPress files to their web hosting server.

Besides installing WordPress, knowing how to utilize FTP is useful if you plan on utilizing plugins or editing your theme’s functions.php file. Due to poorly written code or plugin compatibility issues, adding a plugin or making a change to the functions.php file can sometimes result in the “white screen of death,” locking you out of your site. If you know how to use FTP, you may simply use your FTP client to connect to your server and delete the files that are causing the problems.
